Brookville Report 5/21/13

          This morning my dad and I were able to get out to the Brookville tailwaters to do some trout fishing. The water conditions were prefect with a depth gage reading of 3.5ft and a water temperature of about 48 degrees F. There were plenty of fresh fish due to the recent stocking of rainbow trout in the tailwaters. We ended up having a pretty good day.

          We got out on the water at about nine in the morning and fished until a little passed one. I was fishing my 10' 4wt rod and my dad was fishing a 10' 5wt rod. The extra foot on these rods really makes nymph fishing a whole lot easier and relaxing. We were using 6X fluorocarbon leaders and double fly rigs. At the end of the day the rig that ended up catching the most fish was a size 16 pheasant tail nymph with a size 20 red zebra midge nymph dropper.
          These fish were full of energy! They really used the fast current to their advantage and dragged us downstream quite a ways in order to land them. After catching 12-15 fish among us, we had tired arms. The smallest fish was about 12" and the largest fish measured at 16". We caught all rainbow trout and one nice brown.
