Hybrid update

Got out the last few days and fished for some smallmouth and hybrid striper's. I have had some success fishing at a few of the different access points from Milford down river to the mouth where it flows into the Ohio. Big bait fish patterns have done well for the hybrids even though i haven't seen a huge presence of shad or skipjack yet as I think everything has been pushed back due to the long, never ending winter we had.  I would expect to see more bait coming in as these water temperatures continue to rise, which will help turn the fishing on a bit more.

D&H Rod Raffle: Sage 99 5-weight

Delamere & Hopkins is having a rod raffle to raise money for Project Healing Waters.  The fly rod is a 5-weight from the Sage 99 series.  The rod is valued at $699.  The tickets are $5.

read a review:
"The Sage 99 Fly Rods are the best all around nymph fishing rods.  The light action of the rod tends to hook up well with nymphs in the 14-20 range with indicators, but it still throws big stones like a champ because of the length.  The flex of the rod seems to keep nymphs from getting tangled with the indicator.  The 99 is also VERY popular with float tube fisherman and pontoon boat fisherman who will fish sitting down and want the extra length."

Stop in the shop to purchase your raffle tickets (cash only).

First fly fishing school of the year

We held our first fishing school today at our new location.  The school went well.  I only had one student which is extremely rare, but I think he got  a lot out of the day.  The new location is very nice. The open space worked out really well for our basic casting drills and the pond was a great place to hone our fishing skills.  The club members have been very gracious.

Bob caught a bunch of these.

Our next school date is May 4.  I believe we still have 4 spots open as of April 27.  Please give us a call at 513-871-3474 if you would like to reserve a spot for yourself or a friend.

Lake Erie Steelhead Fishing Report (Round 2) 4/24-4/25

Due to the crazy time I had up on the Erie tribs a little bit ago, I had to go up one last time before the spring run ended. The water was low on most rivers including the Conneaut, Rocky, Upper Chargin, and Ashtabula Rivers.  Fortunately the Grand was awesome.  It is not too often that the Grand gets to the levels it was at (150-200 cfs).  The clarity was also had that desired "steelhead green" tint to it.  It turned out to be a great trip.

Fly Fishing Schools: location report

Luke and Mark ran down to our new school location this morning to throw some flies and learn more about the property.
The report is that even with a cool morning, fishing was very good.  Our students this year should have a good time.

water levels for our Montana trip this coming September

Our trip to Montana this year is September 19-25 and the water is looking good.
The NRCS has fantastic updates on what's happening in the area of Montana that we will be visiting this coming September.  The out look looks strong for precipation year to date and current snow pack levels and averages.  It looks very positive with our area having 150% of average pack.

Lake Erie Steelhead Fishing Report 4/11-4/13

This weekend I headed up to the Ohio tribs to chase down some steelhead.  Since all of the rivers were blown out, I really didn't know what to expect.  It turns out it was one heck of a fishing trip.

I not only picked up my largest steelhead (35"), but the largest one I have ever seen come out of an Erie trib. It took 20 min, 50 yards of bank, and a size 14 egg to land him.

Montana photos of the week
