Hybrid Striper Party: March 27th 6-8pm

This year we decided to throw a little party for the kick-off spring fishing on March 27th. As a lot of you know, we have been targeting the Hybrid stripers in the Little Miami River a lot during the spring, summer and fall.  We have learned a lot about these fish and would love to share a bit of information with you, along with FREE BEER, fly tying demonstration, 10% off fly tying materials and tools, good company to talk fishing and shake a little bit of the cabin fever off! 

Building My First Rod

I decided a little while back that I hadn't bought a new rod in a while, and decided to change things up and try building one myself.  If there is anyone who is extremely picky about gear it's me, now I can only blame myself.  I built a 9' 7 wt. Sage Xi3 and was very happy with how it turned out.

I picked a 7 wt. because I think it's a great all around rod weight.  I can throw big flies for small mouth, largemouth, carp and it'll be really fun for hybrid stripers.  I'm excited to have a unique rod that no one else on the water will have.

Filson Double Mackinaw Cruiser

Delamere & Hopkins has been stocking the Double Mackinaw Cruiser from Filson for twenty seasons.  Many customers appreciate the hardy wool and the quality construction, but comment that they do not think it gets cold enough in Cincinnati to get much wear time.  I wear mine a bunch each season and the winter of 2013 gave me more opportunities than I knew what to do with.

I can tell you with all honesty I have never been cold while wearing this garment.  This is a "lifer" product that I guarantee will get many years of use after I am long gone.  I wear the heck out of it and could hang it up in the shop and put a price tag on it and I don't think anyone would know it has been used for decades.

Quail hunting on feb 24th

Went out to try our luck on some quail with my Dad today and we had a good time. We didn't have too long to hunt so we know we left some birds out there.  We hunted from about 1-4 today.  Duke found some birds right away and over all did a good job.

Briarwood Sporting Club

Briarwood is one of the premiere private sporting clubs in our region. Consisting of 500 acres, 16 warm water ponds and lakes, and 4 artificial trout streams, there is plenty to explore and tons of fish to catch. Some of the larger lakes also feature trolling motor equipped boats for guest use. 

            This is a non-instructional trip. D&H hosts will fish right along with you and if you ask or we notice something we will be more than happy to help you with casting, knots, handling fish, or any other questions you might have. Montana Fly Fishing Trip 2014

                       September 19-25, 2014

We will be visiting the southwestern part of Montana.  This part of Big Sky country is blessed with large agricultural valleys ringed by snow-capped mountains and some of Montana’s best trout fishing.  This is the real West.  The local towns are filled with ranchers, miners and trout bums.

ITINERARY

Arrive Montana: travel to Montana; drive to Upper Canyon Outfitters; get settled in, discuss conditions and what type of fishing you would like to do the next day; refreshments and dinner; get a good night sleep
Fishing Days: breakfast, 5 days of guided fly fishing, lunch on the stream; dinner
Leave Montana: breakfast; travel home relaxed and reenergized

Upland hunting

I was invited for the annual traditional upland hunt in Shelby County, Kentucky this past Saturday.  The day was cold and snowy, but the sun peaked out from the clouds every now and then.
