SHOP WILL BE CLOSED FOR EASTER SUNDAY

Michigan Strip Trip

I recently got back from spending a couple days up in Grayling, Michigan.  Grayling sits right on the Au Sable River, which is my favorite place in the whole world.  It's streamer time up there... rising water temps, stained flow and elevated water levels bring some of the biggest, baddest, browns in the midwest out to feed.  Combine this with some overcast days and you have the recipe for some awesome streamer fishing.

Fly Fishing in Belize September 2016

Bucket List Alert!!
Join us in Belize.
Extremely Limited Space Left

Join D&H for an amazing saltwater adventure to Belize.  We will be staying at the renowned El Pescador Lodge.  Our long time fly fishing school instructor and his wife, Brian & Julie Barnard, were there this past September, and will be your hosts for this trip.

The Fishing

The Caribbean waters in and around El Pescador are home to incredible schools of bonefish, resident and migratory tarpon, and giant permit. In addition, there are good numbers of barracuda, snapper, jack, and snook. If you ever wanted to land a Grand Slam-Tarpon, Permit, and Bonefish- this is the place to do it.

A typical day includes 8 hours of guided fishing from a flats boat.  You and your fishing partner will take turns at the front of the boat casting over schools of bonefish, tarpon and permit. After a great day on the water, your guide will bring you back to the resort with plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon.  You can relax poolside, play a game of pool, enjoy a drink at the bar, or plan other adventures like fishing in front of the lodge, kayaking, scuba diving, getting a massage, or snorkeling. There is no shortage of great things to do!

Food and Lodging

The trip includes staying in the main lodge at El Pescador.  Your room will be a few giant steps from the pool, the beach, the bar and tailing bonefish!  You just can’t beat it.

All meals are done family style with dinners including items like steak, shrimp, lobster tails, fresh fish, etc.  All meals, drinks (including alcohol) and appetizers are included in the price of the trip.

Weather
Given the proximity to the equator, the temperature in Belize remains relatively constant all year.  During September, you can expect temperatures in the upper 80’s.  It is very pleasant.

Fishing Packages:
Both packages assume double occupancy and two fisherman per boat.  The price includes guided fishing, air transportation from Belize City to the island, all food, alcohol and lodging.  It also includes use of kayaks, bikes, paddle boards, daily casting lessons and wireless access.

·         September 3-10:   2 rooms left.
$4,955 for two anglers! That’s less than $2,500 per angler.
7 nights/6 day adventure with 4 days of guided fishing and two off-days to explore and relax on your own.

·         September 5-10:   5 rooms left.
$4,255 for two anglers! That’s less than $2,150 per angler.
5 night/4 day adventure. All 4 days are fully guided days.

PAYMENT
Given the limited availability, deposits need to be in right away!  These rooms will book quickly.  Please make checks payable to D&H Travel.  No credit cards.  Please send payment to:  D&H Travel, 2708 Erie Avenue, Cincinnati, OH  45208.  A deposit of 50% is required to hold your spot and is due upon reservation.  The remaining 50% is due 90 days before the trip.

James fishing in Massachusetts

One of the D&H Crew goes to school in Massachusetts, right on the Vermont and New York border.  It is nice that James has a trout stream within walking distance of campus: The Hoosic River   I wonder what my grades would have looked like had I had a trout stream within a short stroll?

Great Gear for the Money

Technology is a wonderful thing.  It has made our phones, computers, and cars better albeit more expensive. Fly fishing is no exception.  Technology has made the best fly gear much better. The sealed drag reels, fast action rods, and braided core lines are ideas our predecessors could only dream of. We've come a long way from fiberglass "Wonder rods" and "Fin-Nor Wedding Cake" reels! Of course this all comes at a price.
The good news is all of this technology, R&D, and design has helped create some wonderful, price conscious gear. Here are a few of our favorites, just in time for our local fishing season to begin:

Rods

St. Croix has always been our pick for mid-price rods.  They do a great job producing U.S. manufactured rods for a variety of uses.  We teach our schools using the St. Croix Imperial ($250 for a 9' #6).  This is a medium action rod with plenty of finesse in the lower weights for trout fishing and enough backbone in 6 weights and up for any kind of warm-water fishing.  As you can tell from the picture below, this rod comes about anyway you want it.

Please join us April 7, from 6-8 P.M. for one of our favorite nights of the year.  Please don't forget to RSVP to shop@bestgear.com, 871-3474, or via Facebook: Hybrid Party on Facebook
