Brookville Fishing Report 8/31/14

My dad and I got out to Brookville for a little bit this morning and afternoon. The water was at a good level (3.2 and then got bumped up to 3.5ft). The rain kept the people in and brought the fish out!

Hatch 11 Plus

One of our good customers had us bring in and spool up this Finatic 11 mid-arbor from Hatch. We filled this reel with 400 yards of 30# Dacron backing. He is taking this up to Montauk, NY for some serious striper and false albacore fishing.

Mad River Fishing Report 8/24/14

This morning I was able to get up to the Mad River. Weather was nice and flows were good. We were able to bring some nice fish in over a couple hours.

This 18" didn't want my streamer in his territory.

fishin' the Elkhorn Creek

I ran down to the Elkhorn on Wednesday with Joe
conditions were good with the water just a bit high
we owned the stream that day; only one small group of kayakers passed us all day
fish were caught on the Dixie Devil and olive Zuddler; two solid flies on the Elkhorn
we rented a canoe from Canoe Kentucky and floated about a six mile stretch

NEW! Scott Tidal 8wt

We just received in our first Scott Tidal in an 8wt.

To start off, this is Scott's newest saltwater fly rod. Our initial impression was how clean and pretty of a rod it is. The royal blue and green thread wraps on the gray blank adds great visual appeal to the rod. It has the same natural finish as the Scott S4s as well. It's action is a bit slower than the S4s, but still has plenty of backbone to carry and shoot a ton of line. This rod won't break the bank either at only $475! Plus this rod is manufactured 100% in the USA.

Favorite Dove hunting Accessories

With all the dove talk in the air, we are getting pretty excited for September 1st.  I just spoke to the owner of Shags Run today and he mentioned seeing many birds on the property.  His sunflowers are almost mature and the birds are loving them.  He also planted additional ground for dove hunts this year.
Here are a few of my favorite dove hunting accessories:

 Filson Shooting Bag
I just got one of these a few years ago after seeing many of my friends use it.  This bag is perfect for those hot dove days when a shooting vest is just too heavy.  Both side pockets hold more shells than a dove shooter will ever need.  The lined rear pocket is perfect for carrying a limit of doves out of the field and can be wiped out easily afterward.  They get better looking with age and use.

fishing the Whitewater River

Nick and I fished the Whitewater yesterday.  The weather was beautiful; the fishing was tough.  The water temp was cold and I think this had something to do with the low activity.  We threw everything we had and we were frustrated by the lack of results.  The water was off color, but I do not think that was the only reason for the slow day.  I think smallies like a classic hot and humid Cincinnati summer.  This weather might be great for your backyard cookout, but not the best for fishin'.  I tied on a red & black Beldar and that saved my day with a couple of smallies that liked what I was stripping.
