product review: wading boots

D&H has carried the Patagonia Rock Grip wading boot for some time now, but I had not worn them in a stream.  I went down to the Elkhorn Creek in Kentucky last Thursday and thought I would give the new design a try.  First impressions: WOW!
I tested them on every different type of rock I could find and found the grip to be great.  The water was low and we had to push our canoes thru many riffle sections with our customers in the canoe and I know I got traction with the aluminum bars that I would not have received with felt.

Bluegrass & Burritos

D&H took a field trip to The Comet on Sunday night to hear some bluegrass.  The Comet Bluegrass All Stars put on a good show and they even played Mark's request, Dooley.  Listen to some of the song below (wait till it hits 20 seconds for the lyrics).
D&H bought three albums to add to our in-shop playlist.

hiking in Wyoming

Zand and I just got back from a great trip to Wyoming.  We went to Idaho to meet with the folks from Patagonia and look at the offerings for next Spring/Summer.  We talked with product designers and a fabric specialist.  Very informative.

After business, we headed over to Wyoming for some hiking.  As you can see in the photo below, the weather was typical for the mountains.  One day it is sunny and warm on the hiking trail and then a system moves thru the mountains and you have snow.

Father’s Day and Elkhorn Report

Wow, what a busy weekend!
Late last week Andrew Bowen from Key Bank invited me to a charity sporting clays shoot at Elk Creek Sporting Club and Vineyard. The event was a partnership between Key Private Bank and the Marvin Lewis Community fund. The proceeds went to support some of the Community Fund’s signature programs. The shooters were joined by a few current Bengal players. I was lucky enough to be assigned to shoot with Bengals’ Offensive Lineman, Matt O’Donnell. I couldn’t have been paired with a nicer, more down-to-earth guy. Also as a new shooter, he shot very well and helped the team average out. If you haven’t visited Elk Creek in a while, you owe it to yourself to explore the club. The sporting clays courses are first class and the restaurant and winery are extremely nice.

D&H Fly Fishing School

            D&H Fly Fishing School
Wow, what a weekend. Saturday I helped our lead instructor, Brian Barnard, teach a one day fly fishing school and Sunday I guided a great client on the Elkhorn Creek. Our one day fly fishing schools focus on the basics of fly fishing. We cover everything from a little history of the sport to some information that will help you buy your own rod and reel.
