The Scott Fly Rod Demo Day was this past Saturday and we had a nice turnout even though the weather threatened us all day. The first 2-1/2 hours we had nice weather and a full field of customers casting rods. 90% of the casters were brand new to the sport of fly fishing. We then had rain off and on for the rest of the day, but it never totally shut us down. It gave us a good chance to test our Patagonia rain gear. Thanks to Jerry Darkes for bringing us all of the great Scott fly rods and SA fly lines to cast and learn on.

new item: Mountain Khaki Alpine Utility Pant
I have been wearing the Alpine Utility Pant for a little over a year now and they have passed the mark and we are now stocking them in the shop. The 10.4 oz cotton canvas is rugged enough by itself, but with the reinforced knee and seat panels this pant is really up to the task. Even though the pant is constructed to take the abuse, they are still comfortable enough to wear every day. I have some other canvas work pants that I thought were the deal until I started wearing these.

Rainy Day Smallmouth Fishing
East Fork Tailwater
One of my clients stopped by the shop today to ask some fishing questions. After we talked for a bit, we decided to run out and fish a local creek. I got one of the guys to cover for me and we were off. East Fork tailwater was looking good so that's where we headed. The temp's were cool of course and the water had a bit of color but otherwise the water looked very good.It turned out to be a very enjoyable day.
The things you find on the creek make the day!

D&H fishing weekend at Briarwood
D&H had our first "fun fishing weekend" at Briarwood this past Saturday and Sunday. We normally use this private club for schools and corporate outings, but we will have a "fun fishing weekend" a couple of times a year.
It was pouring rain as we drove north and the skies were not letting up. We knew this would be good for fishing and we were right. Everyone had good luck and then we broke for dinner and a warm fire. After we got comfortable, we suited up and went back for more bad weather and good fishing. The next morning we hit the water early and some of us decided to hit the warm water species in the lakes and ponds. Brian had a nice surprise on one of the ponds and I will show you that picture first.

Bonefish and Tarpon
Mexico Flats Fishing
Louis and I just got back from a fly fishing trip in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. We spent a day fishing the flats for the illusive Bonefish and we landed a good number each. It was a pristine day to fish the seemingly endless flats of the Caribbean Sea. Later in the week we chucked some flies at baby Tarpon in the mangroves.

Gear Bags, Vests and Backpacks
Gear Bags, Vests and Backpacks
Fishermen come in all the time to ask me to set them up with the perfect fishing organization system. Over the years, I have tried several systems and continue to use multiple systems depending on the fishing situation and location. I still use a vest occasionally (and like it) but I have also been very happy with Fishpond and Patagonia non-vest products.

factory visit: Abel fly reels
I thought I would share with you a visit I had with the folks at the Abel fly reel factory in CA. Watching them take the raw aluminum and turn it into an awesome fish-fighting tool was a great experience. Click on "Read more" to see all of the photos.
